Celebrating a Year of Recognition

The past year has been an exciting one for Marc Koehler Associates. Across multiple international platforms, our work has been recognised for its contribution to innovative, resilient and community-driven architecture.

WAF 2026

Two MKA projects—Poppies and Peak Noorderplassen—have been shortlisted as finalists at the World Architecture Festival 2026, highlighting our ongoing exploration of adaptable housing, timber innovation and new ways of living. Poppies, developed by MaMa Pioneers with the Superwood timber building system by Superlofts as co-maker, and Peak Noorderplassen for Superlofts each demonstrate how innovative partnerships can advance community-driven housing.

A + A

Our project Republica continues to gain international recognition as an Architizer A+Awards Finalist in the Mixed Use category and as the Jury Winner in the Archello Awards 2025 – Housing Project of the Year (Mid Rise), celebrating its pioneering approach to Open Building, circular design and mixed-use urban development.

New European Bauhaus 2025

Another important milestone came with the New European Bauhaus Prize 2025, awarded to Republica by the European Commission. Selected from more than 700 submissions, the project was recognised for its holistic vision of sustainable urban living, integrating circular design, affordability, shared amenities, energy cooperation and community-led development. The award reflects the New European Bauhaus values of Sustainability, Inclusivity and Beauty—principles that continue to shape MKA’s approach to designing resilient neighbourhoods for the future.

International Architecture Awards 2026

At the International Architecture Awards 2026, organised by The Chicago Athenaeum, both Republica and Poppies received Honorable Mentions—Republica in the Mixed Use Buildings category and Poppies in Social Housing—recognising projects that redefine how architecture can respond to social and environmental challenges.

These recognitions are a testament to the trust of our clients, the dedication of our collaborators and the passion of the entire MKA team. More importantly, they reinforce our belief that architecture can create adaptable, circular and resilient places where people and communities can thrive.
